I am writing to invite you to the Year 9 Options Evening that is being held on Wednesday February 11th 2015. This evening will give you the opportunity to find out more about the Options that your child can take next year and the chance to speak to the Curriculum Leaders for each subject.
As you are aware, your child has been involved in an option process over the last week. They have received the Option Booklets and expressed their initial preferences for Options in a Straw Poll. The options they chose in the Straw Poll are not final and were simply used for us to gauge interest and to establish the viability of a subject as an Option.
We are now in the position to offer our final option choices and we look forward to discussing these with you on the 11th. The evening will begin at 6.30pm with a short presentation about the Option Process, followed by an informal opportunity for you to discuss option choices with Curriculum Leaders. Gemma Hawkins (Stourbridge College) and Janet Williams (Halesowen College) will also be present to discuss possible option pathways.
Following this evening, pupils will be required to complete their final option choices by 9th March. During the week beginning 2nd March, school will close at 2.10pm each day to allow Review and Guidance to take place. Year 9 pupils will be allocated a longer time slot so that tutors can discuss option choices in more detail.
The choices that pupils make at this stage can have a significant impact upon their future careers. Consequently we are anxious to ensure that pupils make informed choices. Having made their choices and started their options in September 2015 they will not be able to change their minds, so it is very important that they think carefully about the choices they make and ensure that these will give the qualifications they need for their future.
