Languages

Studying a foreign language provides students an opening into other cultures. Languages are part of the cultural richness of our society and the world in which we live and work. Learning languages contributes to mutual understanding, a sense of global citizenship and personal fulfilment. The ability to understand and communicate in another language is a lifelong skill for education, employment and leisure.

We strive to ensure that all students have the best possible learning experience through a knowledge-rich curriculum; one which fosters a love of learning languages, develops the confidence needed to be world citizens and deepen their understanding of the world in which we live.

We are committed to enabling students to express their ideas and thoughts in another language, to learn new ways of thinking, to foster resilience and to equip them with the skills they need to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing.

We explicitly teach our Key Concepts which enable all students to become the best linguist they can be; Mechanics of Language ensures that students have an excellent command of phonics and grammar; Communication and Comprehension teaches students how to interact for practical purposes and Intercultural Understanding opens the doorway into the Spanish-speaking world.

We set high expectations for all and encourage students to adopt a positive attitude towards a life-long language-learning journey.
